"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." - Benjamin Franklin

My name is Alice Lovick and I am a fourth year Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary)/Bachelor of Arts (Humanities) student at the Australian Catholic University in Melbourne. My studied methods are English and Religious Education, however I don't feel restricted by that; I have interests in History, Drama and Maths.

My teaching philosophy follows a holistic approach and with an emphasis on cross-curricular learning which is supported by educational institutions such as Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). Following the designs set out in the Melbourne Declaration on Education Goals for Young Australians (2008), I believe that education the entire learner and building a scaffold for students to develop into self-sufficient and self-evaluating learners as well as successful citizens for the future.

The incorporation of Indigenous Australian learning outcomes and styles is also an important aspect of my philosophy. The 8 Aboriginal Ways of learning plan is an approach to designing a unit plan and assessment types that accommodate not only for Indigenous students but all types of learners and by design reinforces Higher-Order Thinking styles designed by Benjamin Bloom in Bloom's Taxonomy.

Student-centered learning is important in today’s society, gone are the days of teachers writing on the chalk board and students dutifully copying them. Using tools such as group work and peer evaluation are an invaluable part of my teaching practices and an important part of students development.

Classroom and behavioral management I perceive to be one of my strengths in the classroom. I believe that reinforcing positive behavior rather than dismissing or pointing out negative behavior is a more holistic way of behavioral management and in many cases, students best teachers are their peers so creating an atmosphere of positive reinforcement and using criticism in a constructive manner improves students learning as a whole. This places emphasis on leading by example and having high but achievable expectations for students; our aim is to help students on their journey to be the best they can be...let them see how.
